Frequently Asked Questions

Are the travel expenses included in your packages or covered additionally?

If you’re getting married on Waiheke Island, you won’t need to worry about any travel costs—I’m happily based here full time. I’ll also have my car available, which means we can easily pop off to another beautiful spot for portraits if the timing allows.

For Auckland CBD weddings, I just ask for a small $50 contribution to cover the passenger ferry.

For locations outside central Auckland, travel costs are usually around $250–$500 to cover overnight accommodation and/or bringing my car over on the ferry.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is my first photoshoot, what should I know?

I want my couples to feel relaxed, natural, and completely themselves. I’ve developed plenty of gentle, easy-going ways to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera—even if you’re a little shy or not used to being photographed. My aim is for the experience to feel fun and effortless, not posed or pressured.

I’m always happy to meet up in person or have a chat over the phone to talk through my photography style, answer any questions, and give you a clear idea of what to expect on the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if the weather is unfavourable for an outdoor shoot?

Rain on your wedding day? No problem at all. In fact, it can create some of the most magical images. I come prepared with umbrellas, and I’m great at discovering sheltered little nooks where we can sneak away for photos without getting drenched.

After years of shooting weddings in all sorts of weather, I know there’s always a way to make something beautiful happen. Sunshine or showers, your day will still feel like you—and I’ll capture it just as it unfolds.

a bride and groom pose under their wedding arch with the evening sunlight, they are embraced and happy at Mudbrick vineyard

Sonja is a photographer that will make you feel so at ease on your day. She is incredibly approachable and helpful, Prior to our wedding she was happy to Skype and email us to answer any questions (and we had many!) that we had. I'm someone who is incredibly awkward when it comes to having pictures taken but Sonja is just such a calming presence, her way of taking photos is unobtrusive so you feel so at ease in front of the camera. Sonja went above and beyond to capture everything and everyone at our wedding, In fact, we have a picture with every single one of guests and that is no easy feat!

The icing on the cake was the many pictures Sonja was able to capture of me and my family with my handsome boy...my dog Milo.

If you're looking for a photographer who is professional, understands you as a couple, answers the million emails you send them, has an eye for great locations and candid shots, I couldn't recommend Sonja enough. We just got our pictures back and they are stunning. My husband and I couldn't be happier!!

Sonja is absolutely amazing! Such a genuine person with the most amazing talent to capture beautiful candid moments!

On our wedding day she blended in seamlessly with our family and friends and everyone loved how unobtrusive she was.

Both my husband and I are in love with the photos! It rained the whole day but Sonja's enthusiasm energised us to enjoy the romantic rainy day photos.

Sonja was also so accommodating with our wedding date changes and travelled all the way from Waiheke island to capture our special day. Even when the reception venue changed to be further away then we had originally planned she was still happy to come down, and we are so grateful to her for all the travel she did! 🥰

10/10 recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!++

you only have to look at her portfolio to fall in love with her beautiful shots!

Testimonials
in a field of wild grass a groom affectionately kissed his brides nape of her neck in a caring affectionate embrace at the top of Mudbrick

Sonja was incredible, laid back and produced high quality photos of our special day. She really felt as though she was one of our family members by the end of the day. My husband and I had an intimate wedding with our immediate families at Mudbrick, and it was really important that we worked with someone who didn't need too much direction, since we live overseas in Hawai'i. We also wanted to work with someone based in Waiheke.

From our initial estimate, to electronic payments and a really fast turnaround on edits, Sonja was easy to work with - both on logistics and administration as well as artistry. You can tell that Sonja is committed to her craft. I wanted a certain type of photo and she took the extra step of renting a special lens for the shoot. She also spent a good 30 minutes with us in a chest high field full of pollen just to get the perfect shot! My brother also got his wedding photos done (he eloped 2 years earlier) in the morning so she shot photos the entire day! Now that's endurance! Thank you Sonja!
